ConnectED
Homelessness Video Project

This is a joint ConnectEd and Prahran Mission project, which is funded through a philanthropic grant from the ANZ bank. The project seeks to record the narratives (stories, opinions, experiences, views etc,) of people who have experienced homelessness (and/or) including rooming house life.

It is believed that these stories and narratives of peoples lives, experiences, struggles and viewpoints are significantly marginalised and unheard in the wider community - or indeed by the services that provide assistance to these people - Essentially a significant minority of Australians are rendered largely invisible in this country

Currently 1 in every 200 Australians or 100 000 are homeless on any given night according to the 2001 census This project seeks to make these people and these narratives more visible, more accessible - to stimulate awareness and education, and promote discussion around the issues raised.

Most importantly it seeks to record, and acknowledge peoples stories and histories in their own words...

There are 3 main aspects to this project:

1/ A consumer group run survey and report of conducted in the rooming houses in Melbourne's Inner south region - one of the largest of its kind to date

2/ Extended raw footage of interviews with people discussing their stories, experiences and viewpoints made available on this website

For Streaming Video Files of the raw interviews see our video page.

3/ A 40 minute 'educational' DVD comprising the various interviews - edited around themes

This is now complete and copies of it can be obtained from Nick Ivanoff at:

connected@prahranmission.org.au

.
Streaming Video of the completed DVD video can be watched or downloaded HERE
